PHOTOS & REVIEW: AESTHETIC MESS 1 YR ANNIVERSARY & OVER THE HILL BDAY BASH WITH SSDD & DREAMSALON @ CHOP SUEY, SEATTLE, WA. 6/22/16

Do you know what I was doing on my 40th birthday? Retching into a bucket, about 4 months pregnant with my daughter! Do you know a more pleasant way to spend your 40th birthday? Pete Capponi of Steal Shit Do Drugs and Craig Chambers of Dreamsalon knew what to do! These Seattle punk superstahz did it up right, teaming with DJ Jermaine (who's also in SSDD) and DJ Goo Goo of Aesthetic Mess to celebrate the DJ's team's 1st anniversary and Pete and Craig's 40th year hoo-hah boo-yah by PLAYING IN THEIR OWN BANDS! We all win, and...no morning sickness! YAY! I attended this funky fresh lovefest ear dessert and brought my large camera device.

First up was Dreamsalon, who played a extremely enjoyable, Ginsu-knife-sharp selection of their songs. Shouts for "More!!" were lustily voiced by the crowd at the all-too-quick set end. I grooved and moved, but not as beautifully as Craig's lovely partner Adria Garcia with the spectacular hair moves. Go get "Soft Stab!"

I'm a bigfan of Steal Shit Do Drugs, as they've rapidly ascended to the forefront of "bands to watch good things happen to, because YES OF COURSE YES." This was my first time seeing them as a five-piece rather than four-piece group, and I was super-intrigued by the difference: a more layered, ringing, shoegazey-punk guitar sound than before, well-suited to Kennedy Carda's full-on go-for-the throat vocals. Tremendously cool band, compelling to watch, fascinating to hear. Get their new cassette/digital release, "Trash Can Demos," and their old one (First Comes Money)  too, dammit.

Thank you Chop Suey, Jermaine and Travis of Aesthetic Mess, Dreamsalon and Steal Shit Do Drugs, and Happy 40th Pete and Craig and thanks for all you guys do to make Seattle the best music scene in the world.
