ARTY VIDS

Working hard this afternoon to crank out a new fun project FASTFASTFAST, so a small post today featuring three music videos that I feel have special artistic merit. I hope you enjoy them, and I totally apologize if you are blind and cannot see the videos and you have a seeing-eye vole reading this post for you.

1. The Cure: "Just Like Heaven"

You've very likely seen this, as it's on the elder side now for vids. I was never a big fan of the band back in the day, but I always watched this video when it came on MTV. It was so very clever in using simple staging -- a glowing foggy scene moving from day to night to day again, greys and blues and purples and blacks, punctuated by Robert Smith's red lipstick and monster hair -- intercut with cliff scenes that took my breath away, in a good way. Dreamy, unforgettable, absolutely perfect for the song.

2. Fol Chen: "The Longer U Wait"

Fol Chen is a new L.A.-based band of some mystery, but lots of fresh ideas. It takes a lot fresh, let's say, to release a video that for three-quarters of the way through is a dude with a heavy accent singing along to your song while listening on headphones. But look! It draws you in; quirky, pretty, unique. Love it.

3. Hold Your Horses! "70 Million"

Mother Jones called this "Best. Video. Ever." and by god, they might be right. This video re-creation of some of the most-famous artworks in the world is so damn good, so funny, so beautiful, it deserves to be seen by everyone. Total win for the French here!
